LEGENDS OF THE NEPEAN: Dr Scott Peterson

DR Scott Peterson is one of the ‘stolen generation’, placed into the Ballarat Central Orphanage at the age of 12 months old because he was half indigenous and half Scottish. He subsequently spent most of his education being taught how to become an English gentleman and a tradesman with architectural drawing skills.

At the age of 14, Scott left the orphanage to work as a Jackeroo with RM Williams at Frome Downs in South Australia. “RM named me “Tex” (The man they couldn’t root, shoot or electrocute) because of my fierce ability to break in horses and brand cows, plus long endurance rides to drive cattle to the rail head,” Scott said.

“I joined the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) at 18 years of age, despite RM William’s disgust that I would leave him. I learnt about various types of (fixed wing) aircraft and helicopters. During my time in the military, I studied advanced principles in IT (information technology) and medicine.

“I was subsequently taken from the military to join the new Commonwealth Services for the construction and management of the building of the New Parliament House, where I served in various capacities as needed.

“After leaving Commonwealth Services, I continued my studies in medicine, IT, networking and media. I worked on several government projects for Aboriginal Services in Northwest NSW and NAIDOC Week, along with community cohesion projects.

Scott has over 35 years’ experience in Customer Service, from working as sales for Osborne Computers, Sydney Computer Megastore and Harvey Norman, 13 years experience in Customer Relations with JHD (Joint House Department), New Parliament House as a Commonwealth Officer, and he is currently a Volunteer Director of Chongde Community Care Ltd, which is a public charity and PBI with DGR status servicing all major cities.

He enjoys studying computer systems, multi-media, videography, medicine, genetics, biomedical, robotics, AI, nutrition and pharmacology, designing and developing games, medical equipment, IT and media systems and has international patents in some of the above.

“I have skills in movie making, direction, production, writing and sound production, and I was formally invited to join the Writers Guild and the Directors Guild and recognised as a literary contributor to the government.

“I met Ross Hutchison OAM over 45 years ago, and he had a dream to build Sacred Gardens, where all the people could come together under one religion, culture, philosophy and community.

We spent 45 years building Sacred Gardens, with the support and consultation with the indigenous people from all different areas, government agencies and citizens.”

Scott and Ross are now looking to introduce Sacred Gardens to a far wider audience and Scott has travelled the length and breadth of the Australian eastern seaboard, consulting with aboriginal clans and tribes in the confirmation of the Australian Ancient Temple of Spirit, aiming to connect family and community, and restoring Australian traditions.
