A touching tribute to the life of Alannah Sobolewski was unveiled on Sunday, June 28, as family, friends and members of the Copperheads SMC gathered at the site of the tragic accident that claimed her life in March 2021.

The roadside memorial, located in Plumpton, had begun to show the effects of time and weather over the past five years. Wanting to ensure Alannah’s memory continued to be honoured, George Farah and members of the Copperheads SMC built and installed a beautiful new white steel cross at the site, restoring it as a place of remembrance and reflection.

The accident occurred on a dark March evening in 2021 when Alannah and her mother, Taylor Sobolewski, were struck by a vehicle at the roadside in Plumpton. The conditions that night were difficult, with limited visibility and the added danger of traffic moving through the area. The impact left Taylor with serious injuries, while Alannah suffered fatal injuries and tragically lost her life. The memorial now stands at the exact location where the devastating incident took place, serving as a reminder of how quickly an ordinary moment on a quiet roadside can turn into an unimaginable loss.

The memorial service was attended by Taylor Sobolewski, family members, close friends and supporters who came together to remember Alannah and witness the unveiling of the new cross.

Speaking during the gathering, Taylor expressed her heartfelt gratitude to George Farah, the Copperheads SMC and everyone who attended.

“Alannah will never be forgotten,” Taylor said. “This memorial is a special place where people can come to visit, reflect and remember my beautiful daughter. We are so thankful to everyone who helped create this new cross and to those who continue to keep Alannah’s memory alive.”

The event was filled with quiet reflection, shared memories and a strong sense of community, demonstrating that although five years have passed, Alannah’s memory continues to touch the hearts of many.

The newly installed cross now stands proudly at the roadside as a lasting symbol of love, remembrance and hope, ensuring future visitors have a place to pause and honour the young life that was taken far too soon.
