From Pondi to Bondi for sick kids

PENRITH Beach became the starting point for an inspiring show of endurance and compassion last month, as Pavlo Dobronevsky set out on an ambitious mission to support children battling cancer.

Beginning at 3:45am, Pavlo undertook an incredible 86-kilometre walk from Penrith to Bondi, crossing the entire city on foot in a single day. The challenge was not just physical, but deeply personal, driven by a desire to make a meaningful difference.

Along the way, one stop stood out above all others. After already covering 35 kilometres and walking for eight hours, Pavlo made his way to Westmead Children’s Hospital to deliver an Easter hamper to young patients, their families and hospital staff.

“Handing that hamper over in an Easter bunny costume after hours of walking, knowing I still had 51 kilometres to go, was one of the most moving moments of my life,” he said.

Despite the gruelling distance, Pavlo pressed on, eventually reaching his final destination at Bondi Beach after completing the full 86 kilometres in one day.

The community rallied behind his efforts, helping raise an impressive $2,351 for children’s cancer research; more than ten times the original fundraising goal of $200.

Pavlo’s journey is a powerful reminder of what determination and community spirit can achieve, turning a single day’s walk into a lasting impact for families facing some of life’s toughest challenges.
