CHRIS Barton completed his four-day fund-raising walk from Newcastle to Penrith on Sunday afternoon at the Penrith Paceway, cheered on by fellow walkers and members of the community who shared in the achievement of the feat on behalf of Steps for the Love of Living.
“Action always starts with a single step,” Chris said. “Yesterday (Sunday), I was deeply grateful and proud to finish my walk from Newcastle to Penrith, covering 226km and around 300,000 steps over four relentless days. Averaging nearly 60km every single day made this one of the most physically demanding and mentally pushing challenges I have ever taken on, especially as my legs and their owner are now in their 50’s.

“I felt incredibly proud to complete it, but even more grateful for the amazing crew of walkers who kicked me off in Newcastle and those who helped me to power through the final 40km stretch, including five-time Australian Olympian Melissa Wu, Dr Charlie Teo, Matt & Kelly from Charlotte’s Wish to name a few. I deeply appreciate everyone who stepped up and pushed through alongside me on the final stage.
“Special thanks to the Honourable Rose Jackson for closing out the walk and for your continued support of youth mental health. Every step taken supports our Step Into Action Charlotte’s Wish Scholarships, which focus on preventive youth mental health plus The Australian Man Cave initiatives.
“Also special thanks to my support crew leader Chris Guy and his wife Kerrie Barton for their behind the scenes support.
“Over 200 walkers joined throughout the four days and to date, over $30,000 has been raised, with hopes to see this grow over coming days. Every step matters in changing mental health in Australia!”
