NSW Labor has announced Penrith City Councillor and former Deputy Mayor Garion Thain as its candidate for Badgerys Creek at the March 2027 State Election.

A lifelong Western Sydney resident who is now raising a family of his own in the region, Garion said he understood the challenges facing growing communities and the importance of reliable essential services.

He said his experience representing residents and businesses on Penrith City Council would stand him in good stead if elected to State Parliament.

Premier Chris Minns said the Badgerys Creek electorate was experiencing significant growth, with Western Sydney International Airport and the emerging Bradfield city centre creating new opportunities for families and businesses.

However, he acknowledged more investment was needed to ensure infrastructure kept pace with population growth.

The Minns Labor Government had made progress through major upgrades to Mamre Road and Elizabeth Drive, new schools in Oran Park and the recruitment of additional nurses and police recruits, Chris Minns said.

“Badgerys Creek needs a strong Labor voice like Garion inside government,” he said.

“If he’s elected to Parliament, he’ll spend every day making sure his community gets the investment it deserves under a Labor Government.”

Deputy Premier and Minister for Western Sydney Prue Car said the region needed a strong local representative as Western Sydney Airport and Bradfield reshaped the area.

She said Garion Thain had demonstrated his commitment to the community through his years on local council.

“I know Garion will be a strong voice for Badgerys Creek within the Minns Labor Government, and will make sure that Western Sydney families get their fair share,” Prue Car said.

Garion Thain said Western Sydney was home to people who wanted the opportunity to work hard and build a future for their families.

“Having lived here all my life, I’ve seen how our community has changed and the opportunities the region has with a new airport and Bradfield at its heart,” he said.

A Labor member throughout his adult life, Garion said he believed Labor governments delivered the infrastructure growing communities needed, including schools, hospitals and roads.

He pledged to work hard to secure support for the Minns Labor Government and win the seat of Badgerys Creek at the next election.
