A moment in the sun for Centre Stage students

THE students of Centre Stage Academy Performing Arts are getting ready to have their moment in the sun.

On Friday July 3 (7pm) and Saturday July 4 (2pm & 6pm), Centre Stage is proud to present a short play festival, ‘A Moment in the Sun’, at the Western Performing Arts Centre in Plumpton. With all four acting classes performing, students will be aged from 5 to 50.

The acting students have seen considerable success in the past few years. They’ve won several awards at the Sharp Short Theatre Festival at the Riverside Theatre, including Best Acting Ensemble and People’s Choice and their film work has been internationally recognised. Web series ‘Poison’ has awards including Best Pilot Episode (NZ Webfest & British Web Awards), Best Concept (NJ Webfest) and Best Supporting Actor (Hollywood Series) and short film ‘Josephine’ has numerous awards, including Best Youth Ensemble (Baltimore Web Fest), Best Youth Actor (NJ Film Awards) and Best Concept (British Web Awards). Centre Stage won the Best Performing Arts Centre at the 2025 Local Business Awards in Mt Druitt / St Marys.

The show is made up of short plays performed by all four classes. The juniors (aged 5-10), the intermediates (aged 11-14), our teenage class (aged 15-18) and our new adult class (aged 18+). Students come from all over Western Sydney. The plays cross genre from drama to comedy, social commentary to absurdist comedy and everything in between. With months of rehearsals in class, the students are ready to take over the stage and showcase their incredible talents.

‘A Moment in the Sun’ is written and directed by the student’s acting coach, Wayne Tunks. Wayne is an internationally acclaimed writer, director and actor. He is a former storyliner on TV’s ‘Neighbours’ and is the breakfast host on iHeart’s My88. Wayne’s play have been performed worldwide and has two novels currently available.
