Biennale to boost local arts and culture

By Mayor Todd Carney

PENRITH Regional Gallery is ready to welcome art enthusiasts, creatives, the broader community and visitors for the 25th Biennale of Sydney on Saturday.

This is the first time in Biennale history that Penrith has officially partnered with this prestigious arts festival. Ours is just one of 5 exhibition venues in NSW – alongside White Bay Power Station, Art Gallery of New South Wales, Campbelltown Arts Centre, and Chau Chak Wing Museum at the University of Sydney – providing a unique opportunity to uplift and showcase arts and culture in our vibrant City.

As custodians of the wonderful Lewers: Penrith Regional Gallery, Penrith City Council is delighted to have 12 local and international artists exhibiting their work here.

This is a win for Penrith, where we know residents strongly value our growing arts and culture scene as a way of bringing people together, fostering belonging and inspiring creativity.

I encourage you all to check out the Biennale, which is free to attend. Whether you’re a regular at the venue or have always wondered what’s inside, now is the time to visit.

In fact, Penrith Regional Gallery is expecting more than 50,000 visitors between 14 March and 14 June for the Biennale alone.

Council is delighted to welcome more people to Penrith for this prestigious event. Our business community is ready for the social and economic boost to the City, with guests enjoying our local bars and restaurants, staying in local accommodation, and exploring the nature and attractions we all know and love.

I look forward to taking my family to the exhibition, which includes an immersive experience with a native garden and video installation. There are also ticketed sessions, including a kids’ workshop and curator’s tour.

As we embrace the Biennale, Council continues to achieve positive outcomes for this community through Council’s award-winning We Create Penrith: Cultural Strategy and Action Plan 2024-28.

It’s grounded in community feedback and has already inspired colourful murals, diverse new library connections, and contributed to the popularity of community events.
