WESTERN Sydney gets its own night of Elton John’s songs when Sir El Tom, the show that has played Carnegie Hall and London’s West End, plays the EVAN Theatre at Penrith Panthers on Wednesday 11 November. Six musicians play and sing every note live for two hours, from Your Song and Rocket Man to I’m Still Standing, with the costumes recreated down to the glasses.

The man at the piano is Tom Cridland. He taught himself to play during lockdown, aged 30, to get sober, playing Elton’s songs because they were the ones he loved, and within three years he went from pubs to Carnegie Hall. He has been to more than a hundred Elton concerts as the guest of Elton’s drummer, Nigel Olsson, who has since played with the band three times, and he has met Sir Elton himself, whom he credits with helping him get sober.
