Exciting 15-year old Para-athlete Layla Sharp (Cranebrook) has won a Silver medal at the 2022 Australian All Schools Athletics Championships, which were held in Adelaide from 9th-12th December.

Layla was representing Emmaus Catholic College and ran a personal best (PB) time in the Under 20’s 800m but had to settle for second place, beaten by a wheelchair competitor for the title.

It was an unusual and rare arrangement by Athletics Australia officials, mixing ambulent and wheelchair Para athletes in the same race, and drew mixed reactions from competitors and supporters.

“We are however over the moon with her PB,” said Layla’s mother Sam.
