PENRITH is being called on to turn the town pink throughout October as the community comes together to raise funds and awareness for people affected by cancer.
Penrith was selected by the McGrath Foundation as the first metropolitan area to take part in its Pink Up Your Town campaign, with local businesses, schools, community groups and residents encouraged to get involved, and that we have over many years now!
The campaign aims to unite the Penrith community through fundraising activities while helping provide specialist cancer care and support to people living with cancer and their families.
Gai Hawthorn OAM, President and Ambassador of Pink Up Penrith, said it was a great honour for Penrith to be selected to lead the initiative.
“It’s a great honour the McGrath Foundation chose Penrith LGA to lead this fantastic cause,” Gai Hawthorn said.
“We have such a tight-knit community here and I know we’ll band together to raise money for cancer care nurses who help individuals and their families affected by cancer.”
The campaign has already made a significant contribution to cancer care in the local community, with fundraising efforts across the Penrith Local Government Area helping support the appointment of seven Cancer Care nurses at Nepean Hospital.
Organisers are hoping this year’s campaign will help maintain and strengthen the specialist support available to people diagnosed with cancer and their families.
A dedicated committee made up of business owners from Penrith and St Marys is working to bring the community together and encourage local businesses, schools, sporting groups and community organisations to host fundraising events throughout October.
The committee is hoping to see the entire town embrace the campaign by decorating businesses, organising events and wearing pink in support of cancer care.
